Dirt Oval Summary
On a night where clouds began filling the night skies, trying to high the full moon lighting up the night sky; however, you didn’t have to stare upwards to see the stars as they were competing against each other at the Clarksville StormPay.Com Speedway. Street stock racers took to the dirt oval for $750 to win, as all other classes raced; as well, as the Mini Mod’s having a double feature since their feature was rained out last Saturday night.
It took 15 laps of some of the best racing action seen this season to determine who was going to win the $750 in the Street Stock division. Three drivers battled it out throughout the entire 15 laps; however, it would be Ronnie Hedgepath in the #H55 who took the lead late in the race and took home the checker flag and the $750. That would leave Dale Phillips in the #87 and Josh Taylor in the #6 to finish out the Top 3 with Phillips taking 2nd and Taylor in 3rd. Floyd Clinard Jr. in the #05 finished in 4th place and the #77J driven by Charles Bailey rounding out the Top 5 finishers.
Four different classes had to qualify took to the dirt oval on Saturday night; with, the largest class of the night, the UMP Late Model division with a total of 22 driver’s began tearing it up for 20 laps. In qualifying, it was rolling thunder machine of Cunningham, Tennessee’s Caleb Ashby driving the #6 with the overall best qualifying time of 13.453. Once the feature started, it was veteran of the Clarksville Speedway dirt oval, Clarksville, Tennessee’s own Tony Albright in the #1 who took the checker flag with Ashby coming in 2nd. Elkton, Kentucky’s Clayton Miller, in the #57 and for the first time this season driving in the Late Model division, coming in 3rd, with Jarryd Holshouser in the #41J in 4th and the #75 driven by Carnell Parker III completing the Top 5.
The other UMP division, the Open Wheel’s were also in action Saturday night with Hopkinsville, Kentucky’s Gerald Hodge in the #10 completing the best overall qualifying time with a 13.973. However, Hodge along with six other driver’s did not finish the race, either to being black flagged or to mechanical problems. That reason opened the door for Elkton, Kentucky’s Clayton Miller, who had his own mechanical problems last weekend, taking the checker flag in the Lexington Landscape #15 and stay on top the point’s standings with Dustin Isom in the #117 coming in 2nd and Hopkinsville, Kentucky’s Michael Neighbors in the #17 ending up in 3rd. The rest of the Top 5 went to James Shearon and his damaged #7, which happened during Hot Laps, taking home 4th and Keith Westerman driving the #81 rounding out the Top 5.
The Crate Late Model division took to the track for qualifying and for a feature with 15 laps waiting until a winner would be crowded. The best qualifying time would come from Clarksville, Tennessee’s Carnell Parker III in the #75 with a 13.998. That Row 1 inside position would be all that Parker would need to take the checker flag with Caleb Ashby from Cunningham Tennessee finishing in 2nd with Duane Hodges, also in the Cunningham, Tennessee, in the #117 coming in 3rd. The rest of the Top 5 went to the #88 controlled by Bobby Proctor taking home 4th with Charles Zimmerman in the #93 coming in 5th.
The last class that had to qualify for their feature was the Pro Street division where only 4 drivers took to the track for the feature. It would be Mike Hodges from Marion, Tennessee in the #99 who would take the pole position with a 14.799. A 15 lap feature was in store with only 3 of the 4 drivers finishing, with Bruce Westerman being the only driver not to finish by causing 2 cautions and being black flagged. When the checker flag dropped, it was Hodges who was celebrating in victory lane with Dover, Tennessee’s Anthony Jackson driving the #36 finishing in 2nd with the #81 driven by Cunningham, Tennessee’s Jimmie Davenport rounding out the Top 3.
A double feature was in store for the Mini Mod division because last Saturday night’s feature happened to be rained out and was raced this weekend, where it was the #89 driven by Micah Smith who took the checker flag with Adam Wright in the #66 coming in 2nd with Erin, Tennessee’s Michael Perrigo in the #8 in the 3rd position. The rest of the Top 5 went to Michael Rettenberry in the #16 finishing in 4th with the #17 controlled by James Lovelady completing the Top 5 finishers. The second feature saw the same winner as the first, with Micah Smith taking home the checker flag once again. The rest of the Top 5 went to Indian Mound, Tennessee’s Ronnie Richardson in the #15 coming in 2nd and Michael Perrigo, hailing from Erin, Tennessee, in 3rd. The #17 driven by James Lovelady was the 4th place finisher and Shawn Smith driving the #99 in the 5th position.
There was a 20 lap feature in store for the Outlaw Mini Sprint division where it was Mayfield, Kentucky’s Brian Nance in the #39 who took the checker flag, with Princeton, Kentucky’s Jeremy Anderson driving the #89 finishing 2nd and Jimmy Hale, from Gallatin, Tennessee, controlling the #H9 coming in 3rd. The rest of the Top 5 went to the #7 driven by Ed Mummert ending up in 4th place and Jason Johnson driving the #15 completing the Top 5 finishers. The last feature of the night dealt with 12 laps of Pure Mini Mod division action. Once again, as in previous weekends, it was the Rittenberry’s who dominated this feature. The #T3 driven by Clarksville, Tennessee’s Jeffery Rittenberry took the checker flag with Michael Rittenberry, also from Clarksville who was driving without a hood on his car, in the #10 coming in 2nd and Andy Holub out of Christina, Tennessee in the #28 taking home 3rd. The rest of the Top 5 finisher’s were Keith Kaylor in the #16 was in 4th place with the #11 controlled by Dustin Miller your 5th place winner.
