Dirt Track Summary

Cloudy skies and eventually rain showers moved in Saturday night at the Clarksville StormPay.Com Speedway; however, racing action did occur.  All classes were able to have their feature races except one, which will be made up next week as the Mini Mod stock class will have a double feature next Saturday night.

With the races being rushed through so the show could go on before the rain set in, the Street Stock class took to the clay oval.  In the 12 lap feature it was Clarksville Tennessee’s Floyd Clinard Jr. in the #05 taking the checker flag with Clarksville Tennessee’s Josh Taylor in the #6 coming in 2nd.  The rest of the Top 5 went to Michael Byard in 3rd place with Chris Peltier in 4th with Charles Bailey finishing 5th.  With only 4 cars were competing in the Pro Street Stock class as it was Marion Tennessee’s Mike Hodges driving the #99 with the best qualifying time of a 14.992 and that allowed Hodges to have the inside position and he took the checker flag with Tennessee Ridge’s Bruce Westerman in the #80 finishing 2nd.  The rest of the field finished with Jimmie Davenport coming in 3rd and Larry Barber Jr. taking 4th place.

As every Saturday night, the Crate Late Model class also took to the clay oval where in qualifying Cunningham Tennessee’s Charles Zimmerman in the #93 took the best time with a 13.672.  That inside position was all that Zimmerman needed to take the victory and the checker flag with current point’s leader, who is also from Cunningham Tennessee, Duane Hodges in the #117 finishing in 2nd.  The rest of the Top 5 finisher went to the #15 driven by Jason Jones in 3rd, Levi Ashby in the #1A coming in 4th and the #88 controlled by Bobby Proctor finishing 5th.

Both of the UMP division’s raced on Saturday night with Elkton Kentucky’s Clayton Miller and the newly designed #15 Lexington Landscape car having the best qualifying time in the UMP Open Wheel class with a 14.312.  However, engine trouble would not allow Miller to finish the race and 3 other drivers failed to finish in the feature. This would allow Paris Tennessee’s David Flowers and the #99 to take the checker flag with the #71 driven by Tony Garber finishing in 2nd place.  The rest of the Top 5 went to the #7 driven by James Shearon taking 3rd, Gregg Brown in the #B5 coming in 4th and the #81 controlled by Keith Westerman finishing 5th.

The rolling thunder known as the UMP Late Model class tore up the clay oval on both the feature and on qualifying with current point’s leader out of Charlotte Tennessee, Chuck Proctor in the #27 having the best qualifying time with a 12.584.  That inside position was all that Proctor needed to take the checker and stay on top of the point’s standings with Clarksville Tennessee’s Carnell Parker III in the #75 finishing 2nd.  The rest of the Top 5 went to the #16A driven by Steven Ashby taking 3rd place, dirt track and Clarksville Speedway veteran Tony Albright in the #1 finishing 4th and Charles Zimmerman in the #93 coming in 5th.

The “minis” also took to the track, except the Mini Mods who were cancelled due to rain, with only 4 racers competing in the Outlaw Mini class.  With 8 laps to go, Jason Johnson in the #15 had engine trouble and was taken out of the race with Gallatin Tennessee’s Nate Hale in the #N8 taking the checker, Jimmy Hale, also from Gallatin, in the #H9 coming in 2nd and the #66 driven by Brian Carrigan completing the Top 3.   The last class to race on Saturday night was the Pure Mini class with Clarksville Tennessee’s Michael Rittenberry in the #10 taking the checker flag and Dover Tennessee’s Daniel Stephenson in the #82X right behind him in 2nd place.  The rest of the Top 5 went to Keith Kaylor in the #16 taking 3rd place, Andy Holub in the #28 finishing 4th and the #55D driven by Blake Daniels placing 5th.

Don’t miss all the action next Saturday night, May 17th, as all classes will be racing, with the Mini Mods having a double feature due to their cancellation.  Also, next Saturday night there will be a special cash purse up for grabs as the Street Stock racers take to the clay oval for $750.00 to win.  Gates will open up a 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon with racing action getting started around 6 o’clock.  For additional information about the Clarksville StormPay.Com Speedway, contact the main office at 931-645-2523.
