Drag Strip Summary
The cloudy skies moved out the area which allowed cooler temperatures to move in but that did not stop one of the largest driver crowd’s of the young racing season to tear up the 1/8 of a mile drag strip at the Clarksville StormPay.Com Speedway. Points were once again at stake and $500 to win for Footbrake’s provided everyone in attendance a great show throughout the night.
A total of 31 cars showed up for the Footbrake division; which, went over seven rounds before the final pairing was made. In the final round, it was Clarksville, Tennessee’s Robby Martin staging on the spectator side with another Clarksville native, Roy Mayfield lining up on the tower side. When the lights went down on the tree, it was Robby Martin taking the victory as he sped down the strip in 6.1989 seconds with a speed of 103.23 MPH.
The second largest class of Friday night was the Sportsman Street division where 12 cars lined up to take on each other for cash and taking a lead in the points standings. In the final round, it was Gleen Wood hailing from Clarksville, Tennessee staging on the spectator side with Jacky Bass from Nashville Tennessee on the tower side. When the lights fell, it was Bass who took the victory as he tore down the strip in 8.5418 seconds with a speed of 82.64 MPH.
The other two classes that dragged Friday night were the Street Trophy division, with the final pairing placed Elkton, Kentucky’s David Miller lining up in the spectator side with Crofton, Kentucky’s Jamie Mitchell on the tower side. When the lights fell, it was Miller taking the victory by tearing down the track in 10.6990 seconds with a speed of 65.02 MPH. In the Super Pro division, with the final round pairing Clarksville, Tennessee’s James Stacey staging on the spectator side, with another Clarksville citizen, Adam Bourne on the tower side. When it was all said and done, it was Stacey with the victory as he went down the track in 6.8320 seconds with a speed of 99.98 MPH.
Every Friday night in May, it is $500 to win for the Footbrake’s on the drag strip with all other classes racing as well.
