The Footbrake, Sportman’s Street, and the Street Trophy classes got back into action on Friday, May 15th.  The field was comprised of a grand total of 78 drivers.  The footbrake class had the most drivers competing because they were all hoping to claim the $10,000 prize awarded to the winner at the end.

After time trials was over, the races started.  It started out with multiple driver errors.  In fact, three drivers had red lights in the first five races.  It was not a huge deal early on because drivers could buy-back to get their car entered back in the event.  However, once the first test and tune session was over, the buy-backs ended.  That meant no more room for driver error.  It also began the elimination rounds that would make the massive field smaller and smaller.

There was over 50 drivers that entered in footbrake and the won that took home the check was Leon Robertson.  Robertson happened to be the last driver to get to the racetrack on Friday.  He did not even get in a time trial run.  Robertson had to hold off Jason Lynch to get the reward.  Lynch’s reaction time on the tree was a .5890 to Robertson’s .5570.  Lynch had a 6.2660 E.T. on a dial time of 7.1129.  Robertson had a 7.1129 E.T on a dial time of 7.11.  The winning speed from Robertson was 93.95 mph.  For most of the night, it seemed Johnny Labbous had the fastest car.  Labbous made it to the semi-finals by running times under six seconds.  However, Labbous was taken down by Lynch.  Allen Wood also made it to the semis, before losing to Robertson.

In the sportman’s street class, it was Jerry Knox and his 02’ GMC Sierra who beat out Ronald Long in the final.  Knox’s reaction time at the tree was a .7418 to Long’s .5849.  Knox had a 9.8163 E.T on a dial time of .981 compared to a 8.2421 E.T on a dial of 8.32 for Long.  Knox’ speed at the finish was 69.86 mph.

Then came the Street Trophy class, where Wesley Svatba took home the win in his 97’ Pontiac.  Svatba faced Billy Kinnard in the final round.  Kinnard’s 04’ GTO had a reaction time of .6581 compared to Svatba’s .6579.  Svatba had a 10.3732 E.T. with a dial time of 10.39 while Kinnard had an 8.8949 E.T. on a dial time of 8.97.  Svatba’s winning speed was 60.06 mph.

The next event coming up on the drag racing schedule is the test and tune on Wednesday, May 20th at 5:00 pm.  Then, it is the $500 to win footbrake bracket race that Friday. It is $10.00 to get in.  Kids 10 and under get in for free.
