Clarksville Drag Strip

Four classes took to the drag strip on Friday, with Hunter Anderson, John Triplett, Allen Wood, and Jimmy Bannister Jr. each winning their respective class. The drivers faced stiff competition in the final round, only to outlast everyone.
In the super pro series, Hunter Anderson was up against DJ Anderson in the final round. Hunter’s projected run time was 7.0140 seconds. When the tree feel and they raced to the finish Hunter actually was a tenth slower than his projection but still was able to win. The key to his win was reaction time at the start. Hunter crossed the finish in 7.02 seconds while DJ crossed the line in 6.39 seconds. Hunter had the winning speed of 94.77 mph.
Next was the trophy class. Triplett held off Jim Elrod in a close battle. Their projected times were about a second apart with Triplett’s E.T. a 9.7640 and Elrod’s a 10.6010. Triplett’s reaction time was .5680 compared to Elrod’s .6189. Triplett’s reaction time gave him the extra boost to the finish as he crossed the line in 9.74 sec. Elrod did it in 10.59 sec. Triplett won with a top speed of 72.33 mph.
The footbrake class finals were next. Wood had to fend off John Perry for the win. Wood had a 7.8740 on the dial compared to Perry’s 6.0522. When the tree fell, Wood had a reaction time of .5210 against Perry’s .5497. Perry managed to make it to the finish in 6.03 sec. while Wood finished in 7.83 sec. Wood topped out at 82 mph for the win.
Lastly the street class took the track. In the finals, Bannister Jr. and Todd Wohlwend faced off. Bannister Jr. had a dial in of 11.2551 compared to Wohlwend’s 8.0208. Bannister Jr. had a slightly better reaction time with a .5539 to Wohlwend’s .6121. Bannister Jr. crossed the strip in 11.26 sec while Wohlwend timed in at 8.03 sec. Bannister Jr., who is first in the point standings, had the winning speed of 57.92.
