Dirt Oval Summary

By:  Jon West

A reasonable crowd gathered in the grandstand’s Tuesday night to watch 4 local classes compete against each other and to see the USCS O’Reilly’s Outlaw Sprint cars tear it up at the Clarksville StormPay.Com Speedway.  Among the Sprint cars, UMP Open Wheel, Crate Late Model, Street Stock and Pure Mini Stock took each other on in racing action.

The Street Stock division placed 6 drivers on the dirt track for a 12 lap feature with Clarksville, Tennessee’s Josh Taylor and his #6 machine taking the checker flag with another Clarksville driver, David Cline in the #4 pulling out 2nd place with Charles Bailey, also from Clarksville, and the #77J finishing in 3rd place. Chris Peltier and the #2 Street Stock came in 4th place with none of the other 2 Street Stock cars finishing the race.

Crate Late Model and the UMP Open Wheel’s were the only two division’s that had to qualify with Cunningham, Tennessee’s Charles Zimmerman and the #93 taking the pole position for the Crate Late Model’s with a time of 13.812.  That position is what it took for Zimmerman to take the checker flag in the 15 lap feature with Carnell Parker III out of Clarksville, Tennessee and his #75 taking 2nd place and Bobby Proctor, also out of Cunningham, with his #88 finishing 3rd.  The rest of the Top 5 went to Caleb Ashby in the #61 in 4th place and the #15 driven by Jason Jones in 5th.  Qualifying for the UMP Open Wheels went Elkton, Kentucky’s Clayton Miller and the #15 Lexington Landscape machine with a time of 13.634.  The inside position was all that Miller needed to capture the checker flag in their 15 lap feature with Gregg Brown out of  Burns, Tennessee and the #B5 taking home 2nd place and Paris, Tennessee’s David Flowers controlling the #99 in 3rd.  The rest of the Top 5 for Open Wheel’s went to Ray Deason in the #D4 in 4th place with Dustin Isom in the #117 taking home 5th.

It was a 12 lap feature for the Pure Mini Stock where in Lap 9, Robert Phillips and his #11 went airborne going into Turn #2 and flipped.  Phillips was able to walk out of his machine alright and walk back to the pit area.  When the checker flag waved in the air it was Clarksville, Tennessee’s Jeffery Rittenberry in the #T3 with the win with Michael Rittenberry, also from Clarksville, and the #10 taking home 2nd place and Dover, Tennessee’s Daniel Stephens controlling the #82X in 3rd.  The rest of the Top 5 Pure Mini Stock went to Christopher Smith in the #16X taking home 4th place and the #51 driven by William Jackson Jr. in 5th.

Come out and join us for all the non-stop action this weekend, May 31st, as all will be racing.  Gates will open up around 4 o’clock with racing action starting up around 5:30.
